How are you going to make 2020 the year of your best skin yet?
Since going to the dermatologist and starting on Tretinoin and Spironolactone in July 2019, my skin has undergone some pretty significant changes. I’ve transitioned from combination to dry, and my hormonal acne has largely cleared up. Now, my main skincare goals are dealing with my remaining hyperpigmentation, redness (mild rosacea), and that pesky tret-dryness. But despite these issues, I’m feeling really positive about my skin, and I can already tell that 2020 is going to be a year of good skin (unless something terrible happens…but let’s not think about that).
Even though I’m pretty happy with my skin right now, a girl can still have goals! So I want to share some of my skincare goals with you all, in hopes of holding myself accountable to them. And I will also share how I plan to accomplish these things in 2020!
Goal #1: Be kind to my skin
This is probably the most important goal of all because it encompasses so many different things. Being kind and gentle to your skin to me is all about avoiding causing extra damage or stress to the skin.
Plan of Attack:
- This year I will be extra careful with exfoliation. There will be no over-exfoliation in 2020! Hopefully I’ve already learned that lesson (*cough 2018 *cough)
- Even though I will be extra tempted this year (partially due to starting this blog), I will not introduce too many new products at once in case my skin reacts poorly.
- I will avoid stripping cleansers, rough scrubs, scratchy towels, or other ingredients / products / methods that are too harsh on my skin.
Goal #2: Reduce Dryness and Flakes
Tretinoin has caused my skin to become much dryer over the last few months and as a result I’ve had to up my moisturizing game! I will need to keep working on this in 2020.
Plan of Attack:
- Like I did in 2019, I will continue to use products containing Ceramides and continue my hunt for the best Ceramide moisturizers.
- I will exfoliate at least once a week to prevent flakes, unless my skin barrier is weak or damaged–then I will not exfoliate at all.
- I will hydrate my skin –inside and out! I will try my best to drink enough water (avoid alcohol and excess caffeine) and will keep using hydrating toners and serums.
Goal #3: Early Anti-Aging
I’m turning 25 this year so I’m feeling like it’s time to get more serious about some preventative measures. I’m gonna be looking 35 at age 50 if I have anything to say about it!
Plan of Attack:
- I will keep using Tretinoin this year (and hopefully forever) unless any issues come up.
- This year, I will find a good Vitamin C Serum for my skin
- I am going to start doing more research on Antioxidants in skincare and how incorporate them into my routine.
- I am also planning to look into Peptides and test out some products that contain them.
- SPF SPF SPF – I will do my best to apply it everyday (in the proper amount) and reapply it as necessary. I should also get better at applying SPF to my neck and ears.
Goal #4: Redness Relief
In 2020, I’m finally going to start trying to tackle my redness and Rosacea more actively. Most of the time, it doesn’t really bother me that much — but I would love to find some products to reduce redness, especially for summer and winter.
Plan of Attack:
- I plan to try using Azelaic Acid again this year! But this time, I will introduce it more slowly to avoid irritation.
- I will keep using products that contain Centella Asiatica in my routine
- I am going to do more research and experimentation on ingredients such as green tea to see what they can do for my skin.
Goal #5: Blog About It!
Finally, I really want to put more time and effort into this blog in 2020. I’m hoping to into a regular posting routine and keep you all updated on my skincare journey!
Plan of Attack
- I will develop a schedule for when I will post and do my best to stick to it.
- I will periodically update you all on my skincare routine, empties, etc.
- I will also work on developing a standard process for how to review products so you will know what to expect from my reviews.
- I’m hoping to keep producing better content and photos for the blog and my Instagram. Cheers to 2020 being a great year for skin!
